Thank You

The facepaint has been removed and the bikes are safely stowed in the shed. We’d like to thank everyone who helped make the 2015 Ride For Refuge in Belleville and Kinston a success. We’d like to thank our riders and walkers, their generous donors, our event sponsors, event volunteers, partner charities and our venue hosts for helping us throw a fun and safe event. Not only does this help us, and other like minded charities to raise important funds for operating, but it also helps us to raise awareness for the issues surrounding the displaced, the vulnerable, and the exploited. Good job!

How did we do?

The first year running any event is always a learning process. While we didn’t make our fundraising goals, we did raise awareness about the event in the communities where we operate, laying the groundwork for successful events in the future. On a citywide level, Kingston made 78% of its target and Belleville made 46%. That’s an excellent start for a first outing. While donations will continue to trickle in over the next couple of weeks, to date, nightlight in Kingston raised $6,745 and Belleville raised $4,175.

Of course, success isn’t just measured in dollars and cents. Together we’ve mobilized a part of the community around issues that matter. Next time, we’ll mobilize a bit more. These types of events help us remind people about the very real needs of others, inspiring them to care and take action. Every little bit helps, so let’s continue to make a difference.
