nightlight Sarnia – NOW OPEN!!!

Story highlight from our centre.

The days and nights are getting colder, shorter, and for those who don’t have stable shelter, more unpredictable. For our Sarnia location, that makes for busy evening drop ins on Mondays and Tuesdays. There was even recent conversation about moving tables closer together to make room for more guests. On one particular evening in November, Sarnia saw a first time guest walk through the doors. This young man had been homeless for a couple of weeks, trying to get some sleep on park benches and in parks. He was wearing four layers of clothing. He hadn’t gotten much sleep in the cold, so the warmth of nightlight was welcome. He sat with a couple of volunteers and started sharing some of his story. Within the next hour, these men had him packed up with warm clothes, food, and blankets, and were confirming his bed at a nearby shelter for that evening. He was humbled, grateful, and encouraged.

This is one of the reasons nightlight Canada exists. Staff and volunteers are able to connect with guests in ways that are incredibly meaningful. Whether that is a rousing game of cards, serving coffee and snacks, having conversation, or finding someone a warm bed to sleep in, our communities need us now, and they’ll need us tomorrow. Thank you for continuing to support us.
